We know Winter is talented, but…picking the winner of the world’s biggest football game?

On January 28, four days before Super Bowl XLIII at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneer legend Mike Alstott was at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Winter’s home, accompanied by a young boy who lost his leg in a boating accident two years ago and has been helped by the Mike Alstott Family Foundation. Each threw a football, representing the two NFL teams competing in the game – the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers – into the aquarium’s pool.

Winter’s task? Fetch and return the football – representing the team she thought would win – to her trainer. Winter chose correctly. The Steelers won the nail-biter, 27-23, giving the team a record-setting sixth Super Bowl victory.

Winter is the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin who, at only three months of age, lost her entire tail and two vertebrae after being caught in a crab trap line on Florida’s east coast. She was taken to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to begin a long recovery, which included being fitted with a prosthetic tail. Her incredible story of survival has been documented in media all over the world, and she has become an inspiration to countless visitors, especially children living with physical handicaps and wounded war veterans.
